Vendor Spotlight: Queen of the Ashes
At this year’s Association of Professional Piercers Conference, we had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful jewelry vendors. However, one vendor stood out in a big way—Queen of the Ashes has been a favorite among our team at Evolution for quite awhile. This year, we knew it was time to make it official.
We're excited to introduce you to this unique line of jewelry and share the story behind their creativity and craft. We asked the owner, Hika, to introduce their brand.
Can you tell us a little about where you’re from and how long you have been in the industry?
Queen of the Ashes is a small German company based in Berlin. It is AFAB-owned and proudly just celebrated its 6th birthday last month!
What is your mission as a company?
The goal of Queen of the Ashes is to always reinvent the idea of what jewelry for stretched earlobes could be and to avoid reiterating pre-existing designs. At Queen of the Ashes, the goal is to make slow-fashion (timeless pieces you will love and that stand the test of time) and, instead of following fast-paced consumerism I am taking my time to perfect each detail until I am fully satisfied with the result.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Growing up as a neurospicy, nerdy kid, I devoured books and movies—drawn deeply into the legends and myths of many cultures. Awe-inspiring art would imprint itself in my mind, and all of it seemed to sit there, quietly marinating, waiting for different ways to be expressed. I’ve been making art since my teenage years—through writing, drawing, sewing, and performing—and for the past six years, through designing wearable art. The books I read, the movies I watch, and the artwork I admire inspire me today, often reappearing in my imagination as pieces of jewelry.
Lastly, what is your favorite piece in the collection currently?
It is hard to say what my favorite pieces are since all of them are done with so much love and care. Lately, I find myself preferring to wear the Nosferatu, Sloth and Necronomicon a lot for comfort; visually I would say the Ophanim is my biggest favorite.
We’re thrilled to carry this incredible vendor! You can now find Queen of the Ashes at both of our studios—and don’t miss seeing how our staff style their own favorites from the collection (from left to right: Kat, Jiinx, and Keara).
