300 Piercings Later, Skye Has Her License!
We have exciting news: Skye has officially earned her license from the New Mexico Board of Body Art and has been promoted to Associate Piercer here at our Central location. She has been part of the Evolution family since 2022, and watching her reach this milestone is a proud moment for our team. We want to introduce you to her properly, tell you what went into getting here, and help you figure out if she might be the right piercer for your next appointment.
Meet Skye
Hello! I'm Skye and I am a piercer here at Evolution Body Piercing and I primarily work at our Central location. I’ve been working in the body art industry since 2017, when I started my career as a jewelry specialist at a reputable studio in Oklahoma City. Over the years I wore a lot of hats, giving me a strong foundation before I began my apprenticeship. My partner and I moved to Albuquerque in 2022 to join the team at Evolution, and then in April 2025 is when I began my apprenticeship under Noah Babcock. I had always wanted to be a piercer so I was super stoked and grateful to get the opportunity, especially with learning from a legend like Noah! Now that I am licensed, I'm so excited about this new chapter in my career.
What It Took to Get Here
Getting licensed in New Mexico is not a weekend course. The state requires a minimum of 1,200 hours of apprenticeship training, including 100 hours of theory and 1,100 hours of hands-on practical work under a board-approved sponsor. That training covers anatomy, infection control, sterilization, client consultation, and a full range of piercing procedures. Apprentices must also meet minimum requirements for the number and variety of piercings performed before they are even eligible to sit for the state board exam. Skye completed all of it and passed with flying colors.
By the time she finished her apprenticeship, Skye had performed over 300 piercings.
Who Trained Her
Noah Babcock has been piercing since 1995 and joined Evolution in September 1999. As our head piercer and the founder of Interstellar Jewelry Productions, he has spent decades building a reputation for creativity and craftsmanship that is recognized well beyond Albuquerque. What makes him remarkable is not just his tenure but his passion: his love for this industry and this craft has only deepened over the years. Skye spent her apprenticeship learning directly from him, and that foundation comes through in her work.
What Does An “Associate Piercer” Mean?
Skye is fully licensed and proficient in all common piercings, with a focus on safety, precision, and client comfort. As she continues building her client base and experience, she may occasionally collaborate with a mentor on more advanced or technical procedures. We take our team's continuing development seriously, and that kind of mentorship is how we make sure every client gets the highest standard of care.
Skye's Approach
Skye keeps things fun, relaxed, and comfortable in the room. She wants every client walking out happy and excited about their new piercing. If that sounds like your kind of appointment, she would love to meet you.
She has a particular love for ear work, especially daith piercings and industrials. If either of those are on your list, she would love to see you. One of her proudest moments during her apprenticeship was a daith project she completed on fellow Evolution team member Bethany.
